- 19:30

The third edition of CARTADITALIA, the quadrilingual journal (IT FR NL EN) published by the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels, is dedicated to the new frontiers of science. Edited by two journalists specialised in writing about scientific topics for non-specialised audiences, Luca De Biase and Guido Romeo, this edition gives the floor to Italian researchers under 40, working in university departments and laboratories all over the world. To coincide with the publication of this edition of CARTADITALIA, the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels is organising three events at Bozar dedicated to the new frontiers of contemporary science in collaboration with young Italian and foreign researchers. These events will focus on three main topics: artificial intelligence, the medicine of tomorrow and cities of the future. This last topic will be discussed at BOZAR on November 14.

The third debate, moderated by Luca De Biase, with Giuseppe Notarstefano and Julien M. Hendrickx focuses on smart cities.

Giuseppe Notarstefano Giuseppe Notarstefano is Associate Professor at University of Salento (Lecce, Italy). He has been visiting scholar at the University of Stuttgart, University of California Santa Barbara and University of Colorado Boulder. He has coordinated the “VI-RTUS team winning the International Student Competition Virtual Formula 2012”. He is recipient of an “ERC Starting Grant” 2014.

Julien M. Hendrickx has a PhD in Mathematical Engineering from the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL). He has been a visiting researcher at the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and postdoctoral fellow at the MIT. Since 2010, he is a faculty member of the Louvain School of Engineering, UCL. He received the “2008 EECI award” for the best PhD thesis in Europe in the field of “Embedded and Networked Control”, and of the “Alcatel-Lucent-Bell 2009 award” for a PhD thesis.
