Toots Thielemans Jazz Award
BOZAR and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels are really going to town with this tenth edition of the Toots Thielemans Jazz Award, an award which was created following a conversation between Toots Thielemans and the jazz teachers of the conservatory.
The two organising partners hope that this award will give creative and innovative jazz talent a push in the right direction. Laureates play a concert on an internationally renowned stage and go home with respectively 2500 euros and 1500 euros.
On Saturday 26 January you will be treated to the latest compositions and arrangements by the two winners of this edition: the Dutch drummer Daniel Jonkers and the Italian double bass player Federico Stocchi. Then the former laureate Stijn Cools and his brother Bert Cools perform improvisations involving electronic instruments. The special guest is Magic Malik, an incredible Paris-based flautist who, for many years now, has been one of the most sought-after musicians on the European jazz scene. The sparring between Malik and the Cools brothers (Granvat) promises to be quite something!
At 11pm the prizegiving takes place. You get to decide who goes home with the public prize, so be sure to come along! (!! Be there before 07:30 in order to receive a voting ballot)
As part of the tenth anniversary of the Toots Thielemans Jazz Award and the 25th anniversary of the jazz section of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
