ECHO

Tina Gillen (°1972, Luxembourg) has been working as a painter since the late 1990s. She is interested in the boundary between figuration and abstraction, between the flat surface and the space. Her work is built up of clearly visible layers. You can recognise familiar architectural elements, such as façades and buildings, which nonetheless evoke a feeling of detachment. Gillen conscientiously incorporates the exhibition space in her work. For BOZAR she has made ECHO, a monumental installation which has been specially created for the Council Room. Paintings and a sculptural element enter into dialogue with a large mural on the rear wall. Gillen invites visitors to get actively involved and to make associations between the elements on display as they wander around.
