‘Tiburtina - Barbora Kabátková’

The Tiburtina Ensemble, which was founded in Prague in 2008 and which is led by Barbora Kabátková, explores the mysteries of vocal music, specialising in two repertoires, i.e., medieval and contemporary music. The all-female ensemble pays special attention to declamation, focussing on correct diction, while never losing sight of the musical aspect and of vocal art. So it is easy to see why this ensemble has chosen to perform the music of Hildegard von Bingen, one of the most intriguing and iconic composers of medieval music, at BOZAR. Canonized in 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI. The German Benedictine abbess was also a distinguished Christian mystic, a poet and a gifted composer. Her extraordinarily beautiful vocal compositions have unusual mystic power. She also wrote a liturgical drama, titled Ordo virtutum. Its 82 monodies tell of the struggle of the human soul between the Virtues and the Devil.
