Tibet Film Festival

Tharlo is a Tibetan sheep herder, who lives a tranquil and pleasant life in the mountains, far from society. At the age of forty, the authorities order him to come to town as the new government rules require every citizen of the People’s Republic of China to have an ID card. And so Tharlo descends to the valley and the town for the first time. His first experiences in the city and his encounter with a young hairdresser will forever change his life…

A lecture-debate held by Françoise Robin, Professor and head of the Tibetan department at INALCO (Paris) and animated by Vanessa Frangville,Senior Lecturer and Chair holder in Chinese studies, will follow the screening of Tharlo on the topic "From Literature to Cinema".
Tharlo, a short story written by Pema Tseden, transfers the narrative satire of the Tibetan society's evolution under the sway of the development of the market economy to the screen.
