Voces intimae
As recently as November, Christian Tetzlaff was soloing alongside the Belgian National Orchestra in Sibelius’s Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47. Now he comes with his prestigious quartet, hailed by the New York Times for its “dramatic, energetic playing of clean intensity”, and they play Sibelius’s string quartet, Voces intimae. The quartet completes the programme with Mendelssohn’s Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 13. He composed the work after hearing that his great inspiration – Beethoven – had died. Through a Beethovenian writing, the then 18-year-old composer had already managed to give the audience a glimpse of the airy timbres of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
