To pay homage to Stephane Karo, a great friend of the festival who sadly passed away at the end of last year, one could imagine no better bill than three of the best bands he discovered, including of course Taraf De Haïdouks. This Romani group who perform traditional music embody the quintessence of the genre. The melodies of everyday life and ritual events such as marriages, christenings and funerals lie at the heart of their repertoire. The accents of Turkey and Bulgaria are enriched with vocal effects evoking the Indian origins of the Romani people. Today, bringing together some 30 musicians and singers from three generations originating in Romania, these artists nicknamed "The princes of the Romani" by Télérama use instruments that have survived into the modern age, such as the violin, accordion, double bass, percussion and wind instruments.  Also very much firmly rooted in the present, they have played at events including the fashion shows of the stylist Yohji Yamamoto and on the soundtrack of films such as Train de vie by Radu Mihaileanu. Enjoy their concert but also their participation in the animations!
