‘Tanbûrî Cemil Bey’

18 Nov.'16
- 20:00

“With unprecedented skill, restraint and composure his fingers glided over the kemençe. He played the crystal clear, crisp melodies without ever jarring or missing a fingering position. All this without any visual signs of unease.” (Mahmut Demirhan)
The Ottoman musician Tanburi Cemil Bey (Istanbul, 1873-1916) was a tambur, yaylı tambur, kemençe and lavta virtuoso and composer, who has greatly contributed to the taqsim (improvisation on maqam melodies) genre in Ottoman classical music. 100 years after his death, BOZAR is the scene of the Istanbul Historical Turkish Music Ensemble's tribute to the master. A wonderful evening full of music, anecdotes, pictures from family albums and musical extracts from old recordings. Welcome!

Presentation in Turkish and English.
