Rising Star Town Hall & Symphony Hall Birmingham

When she was only two, the violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen saw a televised Proms concert. Her eyes and ears zoomed in on the violin. This is what she wanted to do and she never lost sight of that ambition. The highly successful British musician is accompanied by the pianist Huw Watkins. Their recently released recording, entitled 1917, has had a very enthusiastic reception. Their performance this evening will feature Nocturne and Tarantella by the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski, the Belgian premiere of Oliver Knussen’s new composition and the moving and uplifting suite from George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. A rising star at her most versatile.

Tamsin Waley-Cohen is the Rising Star of the Birmingham Town Hall & Symphony Hall. Every season, starting from 1997-1998, Europe’s leading concert halls select a group of promising talents to become their “Rising Stars”. You can now enjoy all the stars of the future.
