‘Tamikrest’

The story begins in Kidal, capital of Mali’s eighth administrative region. Tea simmered on the fire while Pino, Cheikh and Mossa talked. They decided to form a band with just two old “home-made” guitars. A few years later, the band Tamikrest was performing in Australia and the United States. Tamikrest (“connection” in Tamasheq) brings together five musicians from Mali, Niger, Algeria and France. The band sings about the hopes of a free world, to music enriched by modern rock influences. Tamikrest seeks to share Tuareg poetry and culture beyond the vast Sahara Desert. With its hypnotic grooves, poetic lyrics and electrifying concerts, the band naturally establishes itself as a force to be reckoned with on the global music scene.
