‘STARTS Prize 2016’

Science, technology and arts (STARTS for short) limn a nexus at which insightful observers have identified extraordinarily high potential for innovation. And innovation is precisely what’s called for if we’re to master the social, ecological and economic challenges that Europe will be facing in the near future. An increasing number of high tech companies world-wide assert that, in addition to scientific and technological skills, the critical skills needed for innovation to happen and to be of value for society are skills such as creativity rooted in artistic practices.

In recognition of this development the European Commission has launched the STARTS initiative – Innovation at the nexus of Science, Technology and the Arts. This prize rewards artists that propagate scientific and technological knowledge and skills among the general public and trigger innovative processes. The prize awards, on the one hand, artistic works that influence or change the way we look at technology and, on the other hand, very promising forms of collaboration between the private sector and the world of art and culture.

The Center for Fine Arts presents an exciting selection of the prize winners and projects that obtained honorary mentions and nominations.
