‘Soloists of Les Arts Florissants’

Monteverdi and his poets. Imitation and rivalry.

Six members of the splendid French ensemble Les Arts Florissants pay tribute to the father of the opera, Claudio Monteverdi, through the musicians and poets he used as sources for his inspiration. Led by the tenor Paul Agnew, associate musical director and associate conductor of William Christie's famous ensemble, they will be recreating, in particular, some magnificent pieces by Monteverdi, the music of the Franco-Flemish composer Jacques de Wert, who was his master in Mantua, and Luca Marenzio, one of the major madrigal composers of the 16th century.
