I Hate New Music

Too serious! Too complicated! Too ugly! These clichés about contemporary music need to be debunked once and for all. And that is precisely what soprano Sarah Defrise, voted Young Musician of the Year by the Belgian Music Press in 2021, intends to do. In her one-woman show, she lifts the veil on the little-known world of contemporary music with a caustic sense of humour. A wacky world that she approaches on the basis of her own experience and a selection of works performed a cappella. Between phonemes, onomatopoeia, references to American comics, minimalist music, cyclical music and even a few orgasmic outbursts, this is the ideal playing field for the singer’s vocal and acting talents.  An accessible – and funny – take on a repertoire that is unfamiliar and yet so close to us. A show intended for all music lovers.
