Defying communism, the film was one of the few attempts made by the Romanian cinema at the time to reveal the effects the concept of the "new man", devoted to "socialist ethics and equity", had on human consciousness.
Dr. Hristea, a middle-aged man, selfish, indifferent, finds his seaside holiday disturbed when his belongings are stolen. Used to always being right, he insists with the police that the culprit is a young man on the beach. The surgeon’s self-delusion turns into a subtle meditation on power, responsibility and repression.
