‘Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest’

There might not be a thousand of them, but for this performance of Mahler’s Eighth symphony, better known as the “Symphony of a Thousand”, there are nonetheless 300 musicians on stage! Alongside the famous Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and a whole host of talented singers, four choirs make an appearance. These impressive figures are in accordance with the composer’s greatest ambitions. “Imagine that the universe begins to vibrate and resound”, sighed Mahler upon its completion. “They are no longer human voices, but planets and suns revolving.”
