‘On the Road’

Through a lost past and a present held in stasis, these young people show us a world that is sometimes violent and cruel. With the assistance of the audience they throw themselves into an invisible and intangible future. Emboldened by their dreams of freedom and the music of their youth in Afghanistan, they share their disappointments and their hopes. Interchanging between their Persian mother tongue and French.

Feedback from the jury: exciting scenography; beautiful video; seeking ways to express themselves in new home towns; a necessary voice in the city.

On The Road is a group of young Afghans founded through workshops at the Royal Theatre of the Coin for the Songs of Longing project. These young talents, unassuming minors, speak of their departure from Afghanistan and their arrival in Belgium. The themes of banishment, identity loss, love and divorce are interrogated through theatre, music and imagery. The initiators themselves left as youth from Iran. Banishment is the essential theme of their artistic creation.
