Soli Deo Gloria
Time and again, Johann Sebastian Bach used his compositional craft and inventiveness to produce works of astonishing emotional depth. In his church cantatas, for example, he combined Bible verse, free poetry and Lutheran chorales. A good example of this is the very touching Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis, BWV 21, that Bach composed while he was staying in Weimar. In a more virtuoso style, the virtuoso cantata for solo viola Geist und Seele wird verwirret, BWV 35, composed in Leipzig in 1726, expresses the fertile inspiration that was behind Bach's belief in life after death.
