The Ricercar Consort offers an opportunity to immerse yourself in the dramatic liturgy of Holy Week, with the words of the prophet Jeremiah as set to music by the French baroque composer François Couperin. In Couperin's Leçons de Ténèbres, sometimes one, sometimes two sopranos sing over an instrumental accompaniment. This simple compositional style reinforces the tragic character of the text. The Leçons are sung by the experienced Belgian soprano Céline Scheen and the young British singer Grace Davidson, whose pure, warm voice – which you can now hear for the first time at BOZAR – has attracted a lot of attention.
