An imaginary evening at the palace of Prince Vasile Lupu

In 1988, a bricklayer found De Codex Caioni inside a wall in Romania. This collection of music provides a fascinating insight into the music that would have been heard in around 1650 at the court of Prince Vasile Lup, one of the most significant rulers in the history of Romania. As well as work from western masters such as Monteverdi, Lassus and Praetorius, the codex includes Romanian and Hungarian folk music. The perfect mix for Philippe Pierlot and Ricercar Consort, who transport you to a night of lively baroque music in the palace of the prince.
