In the middle of the 2006 elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), two students of the National Institute of the Arts, Clarisse and Demato, decide to make a film on the first sub-saharan African football team to participate in the World Cup. It was in 197, and this mythical team was called the Zaire Leopards.

Monique Mbeka Phoba, director of this film, spent part of her childhood in the DRC, where witchcraft is an integral part of people’s lives and preoccupations. When she moved to Belgium, she lost touch with these realities. Nevertheless, this aspect affects her contacts with her family during visits to her native country, and ends up being a one of the keys to solving the identity puzzle she is (un)made of.

Anna, l'Enchantée

Anna Teko has always sung. She started as a small girl, in her native village of Lokossa, in the family’s religious choir. At 16, she obtains a scholarship to study in France. Ill-prepared and facing the prejudiced attitudes of her host family, she does not last three months there. Upon returning home to DRC, she is criticized for adopting white people’s behavior. Director Monique Mbeka Phoba was able to capture with this film the profound despair of Anna.

Monique Mbeka Phoba is a Belgian filmmaker of Congolese origin who has dedicated 20 years to the production of documentaries. She completed a master of Arts in script writing at IAD, Louvain-La-Neuve in 2010 and started writing scenarios for fiction films. Soeur Oyo is her first fiction film.
