Sophie Letourneur is a French director, screenwriter and actress. She studied applied arts at the École Duperré in Paris and then at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, where she made three study films. During this period, she made videos and documentaries. In 2009, she produced her first feature film, La vie au ranch (Chicks), in which we follow a group of 20-year-old girlfriends in their lives (and a lot of parties). The film received the Audience Award and the French Film Award at the Entrevues Film Festival the same year. Her work follows the tradition of autobiographical fiction, inspired by moments from her own life. Sophie Letourneur attaches particular importance on dialogue and sound. She also likes to mix documentary and fictional images with amateur and professional actors and actresses. Her films focus on female characters that go against the stereotypes often associated with female figures in cinema. These themes can be found in her latest film, Énorme (Enormous), which won the Jean Vigo Prize in 2020.
