Under the patronage of H.M. Queen Mathilde
Following the success of its 2016 piano edition, the Queen Elisabeth Competition is delighted to present, for the very first time, a cello competition. By and large, the new cello competition follows the pattern of the other two instrumental competitions, violin and piano. The finalists will each play a compulsory unpublished piece, as well as a major concerto of their choice from the not inconsiderable cello repertoire, in which they are accompanied by the Brussels Philharmonic under the baton of Stéphane Denève. We are all looking forward eagerly to the new competition for the cello, an instrument that speaks directly to the heart!
