‘The press cartoon in all its forms!’

On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day on 3 May 2019, BOZAR and Cartooning for Peace, an international network of 184 press cartoonists, will be joining forces to present a unique selection of press cartoons on major issues concerning society and freedom of expression: women's rights, censorship, ecological emergencies, migration, paedophilia, etc. With humour and irony, in a few short lines, these drawings condemn, accuse and express citizens’ concerns.
At the heart of the screening, some twenty animated films by press cartoonists from across the world:  Cécile Bertrand (Belgium), Joep Bertams (Netherlands), Boligán (Mexico), Firoozeh (Iran), Kichka (Israël), Kroll (Belgium), Plantu (France), Telnaes (United States), Xia (China), etc.
A series of interviews with press cartoonists explaining the "boundaries" of the press cartoon and a selection of cartoons will accompany these short films.  

Cartooning for Peace
Founded in 2006 by Kofi Annan and Plantu, the Cartooning for Peace association brings together 184 cartoonists from across the globe who are committed to promoting freedom of expression, human rights and mutual respect between populations of different cultures and beliefs through the universal language of the press cartoon.
