Saul Ausländer is a member of the Sonderkommando in Auschwitz-Birkenau.

This group of Jewish prisoners were forced to help with the Nazis’ extermination plan. Ausländer is working in one of the crematoriums. When he comes across his son’s inanimate body, he does everything within his powers to provide the small boy with a dignified funeral. Son of Saul is the much-discussed film debut of the Hungarian László Nemes, Béla Tarr’s former assistant. The film won the Grand Prix in Cannes this year.
