"A horse is born to run in prairies; a cowboy is born to ride." So, what is a cowboy who can no longer ride? This is the central question to Chloé Zhao's The Rider, and the defining conflict for its protagonist, Brady Blackburn. A skilled cowboy and horse trainer, Brady suffers a near-fatal accident which brings his career to a halt and forces him to consider a new life. This emotional drama with breath-taking images was screened in the independent Directors’ Fortnight selection in parallel with the 2017 Cannes Film Festival and was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival 2017.
