Hard to Be a God (Alexei Guerman, RU, 2013, 170')

On a distant planet, human scientists infiltrate the upper classes of a feudal society and are regarded as gods. Step into a nightmarish medieval world for a cinematographic tour-de-force, combining the feverish visions of Hieronymus Bosch and Fellini's Satyricon.

Alexei Guerman (1938-2013), a film-maker who was deeply outraged by dictatorship and constantly exposed to censorship. His take on the history of Russia was of an uncompromising morality and a flamboyant aesthetic. This perfectionist story-teller - just six films in a fifty year career -passed away in 2013.

Screening in the presence of Svetlana Karmalita, life companion of Guerman and screenwriter of Hard to Be a God.
