‘Post’

7 + 8
Sept.'15

Post confronts the memory, in an age which refuses to look itself in the eye. The Belgian dramatist Solange Nebenzahl attempts to chart this paradox in her new creation. Post raises the difficult question of memory after the Holocaust by letting informers, victims and eye witnesses speak through the letters they left behind. These moving testimonies are the best antidote to fading memories and the resurfacing of our old demons. By testifying to what happened new life is breathed into these letters as they are brought to the attention of young generations by the magic of the stage; young generations which need to be aware of their past if they are to avoid making the same mistakes again, and in order to construct a society which is founded on dialogue and solidarity.

Daniela Bisconti, an actress and lecturer at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, is responsible for the simple, unadorned staging. By leaving plenty of room for words from the past, it shines a spotlight on oblivion by reflecting the base acts that we aren’t usually brave enough to face up to. With the collaboration of talented actors such as Alexander von Sivers and Janine Godinas, Post brings us a gripping portrait of our humanity, with its grandeur and its pettiness, its nobility and its cowardice.
