J.S. Bach Goldberg Variationen

Pierre-Laurent Aimard is in the spotlight in the 2018-2019 season, with a ‘Portrait’. The French pianist has already performed at the Centre for Fine Arts three times, twice in the company of an orchestra and once for a solo recital. During this recital, Aimard brings us Bach’s immortal Goldberg Variations. The Goldberg Variations form – and how could it be otherwise in a work of Bach – a perfect balance, a mathematical symmetrical whole. The masterful musical architecture comprises a clear, enchanting aria; the solid fundament of the cycle. With his subtle technique, sensitivity and intelligent approach to every work, Aimard is the perfect musician to play this excerpt from the piano repertoire.
Aimard’s concert is the third and final concert of this season in which you can hear the Goldberg Variations. The pianist-composer Uri Caine will also be giving us his interpretation of the iconic work, as will Frank Peter Zimmermann together with Antoine Tamestit and Christian Poltéra.
