Stravinsky & Schubert
Even without the battery of percussion or controversial choreography, Stravinsky’s piano duet version of Le Sacre du Printemps remains an expressionist masterpiece. Stravinsky may have asked Debussy for help with the piano reduction. The Russian agent provocateur and French melody surfer together at the piano: it’s a striking image! Schubert, on the other hand, was all alone in a remote Hungarian village when he wrote most of his compositions for four hands. He was there to teach Esterhazy’s two daughters. His Divertissement à la Hongroise and Fantasia in F minor provided the sisters with plenty to practice. The London-based pianists Pavel Kolesnikov and Samson Tsoy pluck gems from this repertoire for four hands, synchronising their love for Stravinsky and Schubert.
The artists will be signing autographs after the concert.
