La belle excentrique

‘I was born very young into a very old world.’ This sharp yet melancholy ‘sigh’ from the composer Erik Satie underlay much of his work, including La Belle Excentrique (The Eccentric Beauty), paradoxically a ‘fantaisie serieuse’ (a serious fantasy), which provides the title for Patricia Petibon’s recital. This French soprano invites you to an evening at the Centre for Fine Arts for an evening that swings between humour and solemnity, gravity and fantasy, drawing inspiration from the belle époque, from the frivolity of Paris during the Roaring Twenties, and from the bitterness that followed both. She will be accompanied in this eclectic programme by Olivier Py, who takes on the role of a cabaret artist. Original, amusing, titillating... A final thought: could the eccentric beauty be Patricia Petibon herself?
