Joseph Haydn, Die Schöpfung

Haydn's tribute to the world's creation was written during a deeply religious period of his life. "I have never been so pious as during the time I wrote The Creation. I would kneel down to pray to God every day, imploring him to give me the strength to finish the work", said the composer. This is acutely conveyed by the resulting oratorio, which is regarded as one of most radiantly spiritual works. Sheer musical joy celebrating Light's triumph over Chaos and Darkness.
