Lizst & Strauss
It is to Franz Liszt that we owe the emergence and development of the symphonic poem, a musical genre that uses the whole orchestra to create poetic and literary evocations. Liszt's sublime Preludes, for example, are directly inspired by Lamartine's Poetical Meditations. In this concert, Liszt also reveals the side of his nature that is a composer and virtuoso pianist, as demonstrated by British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, a real ‘resounding meteorite’ according to Le Soir. In 1889 – three years after the death of the great Hungarian composer – Richard Strauss, 25, established himself as the new king of the symphonic poem. With Death and Transfiguration, he sets the final hour of an artist to music, between memories, suffering, hope and easement.
Your ticket also gives you free access to the Nocturne Surrealism at Bozar.
Benjamin Grosvenor will be signing autographs during the intermission.
