Sado (The Throne) takes place in 18th-century Korea, under the reign of King Yeongjo. The King believes his son, Sado, unfit to succeed to the throne despite his status as Crown Prince. Yeongjo does everything he can to prevent Sado from ascending the throne, ultimately sentencing him to death.

This dramamovie by Lee Joon-ik won three awards at the 35th Korean Association of Film Critics’ Awards and was submitted  in February 2016 by South Korea for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
