Abdelkader is a security guard and Malika is a domestic employee. Recently married, they are madly in love; they dream of moving in together and of living their love to the full, despite the financial difficulties they face. One day, however, Abdelkader experiences a violent and humiliating incident that will turn the couple’s destiny upside-down.

Faouzi Bensaïdi trained as an actor at the Institut d’art dramatique in Rabat followed by the Conservatoire de Paris in 1995. After several stage productions, in 1997 he turned his hand to directing shorts with La falaise, for example, which obtained 23 awards at a variety of festivals. He co-wrote the screenplay for André Techiné's 1999 film Loin, then, in 2003, he was responsible for the screenplay of his first feature-length film Mille mois. In 2006, he directed WWW: What a wonderful world and in 2011, Mort à vendre. Volubilis has been selected for the Official Competition at the Venice Film Festival and the FIFF.
