No Obstacle, No Image tells the tale of a quest, that of an artist in search of a ‘tameable’ stag. For more than one year the director Isabelle Makay relentlessly filmed her partner, the Flemish artist Ruben Bellinkx. Between doubt, despair and boundless energy, she films him in his car, in bed, in the studio, in his kitchen and even in his bath… How can an artist be obsessed by an idea and not let go of it until the final result? This film is full of humour, in the style of a gripping detective novel.

By opening the doors of his Antwerp den, Troubleyn, Giulio Boato explores the artist’s multiple facets, from the entrepreneur to the theatre actor, the painter to the choreographer, the sculptor to the collector... He also discovers a resistance fighter, a kind of poetic anarchist who is more humble than he at first appears and who sees himself as a dwarf in a country of giants.
