The Russian-Austrian pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja is the laureate of various competitions and also enjoys fame thanks to her close collaboration with Sviatoslav Richter. She is the star of Schumann’s Piano Concerto, one of the most popular works in the repertoire. The first and only piano concerto that the romantic composer completed is the prototype of the inspired orchestral work for the instrument. Before and afterwards we hear a work by Gustav Mahler. In his First Symphony he wanted to paint a picture of the misunderstood artist who is at odds with the world. The idyllic Blumine was originally part of it, but Mahler removed it because it no longer fitted in with the ever increasing dimensions of his Symphony.
