“One of music’s greatest improvisers.” (EJazz News)
The British guitarist Fred Frith, master of improvisation and champion of avant-garde music, has found his perfect musical counterpart in the Belgian Musiques Nouvelles ensemble. Together they explore thrilling, new musical worlds.
In the hands of Fred Frith a guitar becomes something entirely different… a machine that produces an unholy racket. As long as it squeaks, shrieks and howls, he’s happy. And then suddenly, out of nowhere, he unleashes a stunning melody on the audience. The British composer, musician and improviser is full of surprises, thanks to his astounding technique and knowledge. Frith feels equally comfortable in any style, as long as it’s avant-garde. The Belgian Musiques Nouvelles ensemble and its artistic director Jean-Paul Dessy are the perfect companions for Frith in this concert. Like him, they are on a continuous quest for a new sound, exploring uncharted territory.
