Requiem remains one of Mozart's most moving and legendary compositions, one that definitely ought to be heard live at least once in a lifetime. Although Mozart died before he could pen the final bar, the death mass would ultimately be finished by his pupil Franz Süßmayr. Less well known, but no less compelling, is Paisiello's Messe du Sacre de Napoléon, which was performed at Paris's Notre-Dame cathedral during Napoleon's coronation as emperor in 1804.
Messe du Sacre de Napoléon 1er
Requiem, KV 626 (excerpts, 1804 Parisian version)
