Meet the writer
If there’s one Romanian author you need to know, it’s Mircea Cărtărescu (°1956, Bucharest). He is not just the most translated Romanian author but also one of the most important literary voices of Eastern Europe. Cărtărescu has won numerous international awards – including the Formentor Prize (2018), former winners of which include Jorge Luis Borges, Samuel Beckett and Saul Bellow – and all the major awards in his home country – including the prestigious National Prize for the first part of his semi-autobiographical Blinding trilogy, a string of stories which are held together through associations, told in a rich vocabulary.
He will be in conversation with his translator Jan Willem Bos during an exclusive evening in BOZAR.
