BOZAR welcomes with Melissa Aldana one of the emerging artists on the global jazz scene. In 2007 the Chilean-born saxophonist Melissa Aldana moved to Boston to enroll at Berklee, where she came under the mentorship of tenor saxophonist George Garzone and the pianist Danilo Pérez. In 2009 she took the plunge to New York and began apprenticing with big artists such as Greg Osby and George Coleman. In 2013 she became the first female instrumentalist and the first South American ever to win the Thelonious Monk Competition. As a highly sought-after artist, her career as a leader is rising rapidly the last years.  Her unique tone and voice on the instrument are widely renown and gives her music a strong identity.
