Rachel Cusk is probably, after Ali Smith and Hilary Mantel, the most influential English writer of the moment. Her Outline trilogy is considered a contemporary classic and her books are extremely popular with readers of the current generation. With a considerable amount of psychological insight, she dissects human relationships in her work. She is known for her almost philosophical dialogues. Second Place, her newest book, which will be published in French this autumn, is a psychodrama about a couple and a well-known painter who moves in with them with disruptive consequences.
