‘Meet the Writer: Ghayath Almadhoun’

- 19:30

An evening about poetry as an act of justice and resistance. The Palestinian-Syrian poet and film maker Ghayath Almadhoun is one of the most prominent talents of Arabic poetry today. In his poems, he shows the evil banality of violence, the truths of displacement and the personal loss of his homeland.

Crucially political and nourished by the rich imagery of Arabic poetry, Almadhoun’s voice succeeds in bridging the gap between experiencing tragedy and relaying its magnitude to readers.  His writings on the Syrian civil war earned him the name of “the great poet of a great catastrophe”. This year he published his third book in Dutch translation with the powerful title: ‘I Have Brought You a Severed Hand’.

Almadhoun will read from his poetry and be interviewed by Brigitte Herremans.
