Eva Illouz is one of today’s most well-known sociologists, and arguably the most prominent sociologist of emotions of all time. She’s been studying love for the past 20 years.

Illouz offers incisive critiques of contemporary culture and society. Her scholarship invites readers to reconsider taken-for-granted assumptions about love, intimacy, and happiness, and to reflect critically on the cultural and economic forces that shape our emotional lives. She is interested in how capitalism taken hold of our emotions to turn them into a market. She is a sociology professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and director of studies at the School for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (EHESS) in Paris.
