French and Canadian artist Kapwani Kiwanga talks about a new work she created especially for Bozar. The presentation of this installation comes at the right time. After major solo exhibitions in Europe and the USA, she is representing Canada at the Venice Biennale next year.
Kiwanga's art is often based on extensive research into archival material. For the installation at Bozar, we put her in touch with the Botanical Garden in Meise. The decorative allure of the rug is inspired by Art Nouveau and alludes to the shared histories between distinct territories and the botanic species that were imported in Belgium from elsewhere. During a conversation with Yasmina Reggad, she talks about her work and ideas. After the talk, the exhibition will be inaugurated.
