‘Mayday Magazine and podcast’

A distress call for the future

Due to Covid-19, we were unable to hold our annual May Days debates this year. Instead, BOZAR joined forces with the pan-European collective Are We Europe. Together with our partners, we went in search of stories, photos and illustrations to help us look at the lessons of the past, understand the intense reality of today and envisage the future. The result of months of reflection was the Mayday Magazine & Podcast. The four podcasts were developed under the title of ‘ridiculed, radical, reality’: ideas once seen as ridiculous which are now slowly gaining a place in our society.

On the occasion of the launch of the magazine & podcast, BOZAR asked artists, economists, philosophers and other thinkers around the world to be the first to give their perspectives on the themes raised in the Mayday Magazine and May Day podcasts. We will present their responses on 10 October at the Centre for Fine Arts. A live presentation of a magazine and of a European story.  A varied cast will participate: economist Yanis Varoufakis, Philippe Van Parijs, graphic novelist Judith Van Istendael, Frank Andrews and Anneleen Ophoff of Are We Europe and the European Network against Racism, Heather Grabbe (Open Society European Policy Institute), a.o..
