Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki has digitally restored one of the pinnacles of his oeuvre: the modern classic The Match Factory Girl (1990).
A black comedy with a dazzling starring role for Kati Outinen. She plays the young Iris, imprisoned in a situation with no prospects. Iris still lives at home with her dominant, selfish parents, and works on the production line at a matchstick factory. She fares no better in the romance department, either. Once she has finally found herself a man, she gets pregnant immediately; however, the father wants nothing more to do with her. This is the last straw for Iris, and the time has come for her to seek revenge. A film filled with dark humour and comforting tango music.
