‘Master class Damir Imamović’

"Due to its geography the Balkans used to connect different musical cultures of the East and the West for centuries. Bosnian art of sevdah is one such example of creative fusion of the Ottoman modal culture and South Slavic music and oral poetry. Damir Imamović is at the forefront of today's sevdah: as an internationally acclaimed performer and educator he brought new spirit to the studies of the genre. His clinics, lectures and workshops are often both practically and theoretically ear opening.

Brussels' workshop will cover practical aspects of sevdah music while concentrating on the crucial aspect of the sevdah culture: melodic ornamentation. During the course of two days, students will learn a couple of sevdah songs and work on their classical and innovative ornamentation approaches.
This workshop is not a lecture. The workshop is intended for musicians and/or persons that would like to work on their sevdah singing. The musicians shall bring their instrument."
