‘Mariza’

She was born in Mozambique, but grew up in Lisbon. She initially sang gospel and jazz, but eventually devoted her life to the Portuguese genre par excellence: fado. Mariza proved with her 2001 debut album Fado em mim that the match was indeed destined. She achieved unprecedented sales figures in the genre and is still leading the industry more than two decades later. She paved the way from the intimate genre to the big stages for the likes of Carminho, Sara Correia and Gisela João. In 2024-25, Mariza will present her latest album, her first in four years! Mariza's name alone has matched fado's heritage status. Her music simply surpasses it.
