‘Mariza’

Mariza, the great voice of fado, shares the energy and melancholy of this penetrating music, characterised by a rare sincerity and musicality. Her combination of Portuguese and Mozambican roots grants a unique richness to her subtle melodies. Since her victory at the BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music in 2003, the singer has gained worldwide recognition, performing alongside artists such as Sting, Angélique Kidjo and Peter Gabriel. In her latest album, Mariza canta Amália (Warner, 2020), Mariza pays a worthy tribute to her eternal role model, Amália Rodrigues (1920-1999), the “Queen of Fado”.
