The Seventh Symphony, also known as the Leningrad Symphony, which was partly composed by Shostakovich in the city besieged by German troops, is a vibrant tribute to the unbroken spirit of its people. It is now one of the most popular symphonic works in the 20th century repertoire. Legendary conductor, Valery Gergiev, brings his Mariinsky Orchestra from spring-time Saint Petersburg to the Henry Le Boeuf Hall. Be warned: the powerful brass notes at the end of this symphony will reverberate for some time afterwards!
